01.10.08     How Many Schemes Research Study

The WRIGHT Foundation Research is proud to announce that we are carrying out a research study to re-establish the number of Exercise Referral Schemes in the UK. The purpose of this research study is not only to identify existing Referral Schemes, but also highlight those that are being planned.

As well as establishing how many Exercise Referral Schemes are operational in the UK, we are also looking to determine on average how many Exercise Referrals are received each month, as well as whom they are received from.

In order to accomplish this we will be focussing on all potential sources of Exercise Referral Schemes including leisure (public & private), medical and local authorities. This will be enhanced by a targeted public relations campaign to create further awareness through national, regional local press, as well as national specific magazines, radio and television.

As standard, any information or data disclosed to The WRIGHT Foundation Research will be protected and not passed onto any third party.

We would appreciate your participation in this research study, and look forward to announcing our definitive figures at our UK NATIONAL EXERCISE REFERRAL & REHABILITATION FORUMS 2009.

You will receive, by email, a copy of the definitive report when issued, in appreciation of your assistance.

All are conditions which are now a growing section of “in the community” e.g. Leisure Centres, Private Clubs can benefit from.

Yours in Pulmonary Rehab

Nick Moberly, Chief Executive of
The Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust
I am delighted that the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust and the Wright Foundation have come together to further develop and deliver this course for the benefit of patients with chronic lung conditions. The management of long term conditions (such as COPD) is a key priority.

The initial courses run in this area by our dedicated Pulmonary Rehabilitation team will now be taken to another level with national implementation through our collaboration with the Wright Foundation. This has to be of benefit to COPD patients who have, at present, little access to ongoing rehabilitation in community and non health care settings.

The timing of this collaboration is apt with the launch next year of the Respiratory National Service Framework which will champion schemes such as this to ensure correct management of patients with chronic lung disease.

I look forward to this venture developing and expanding year on year.

Nick Moberly
Chief Executive
The Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust
